Fourth Grade

Cardboard Architecture

After their landscapes, students began to learn about architecture. After the city planning lesson (see curriculum), students began to build structures based off of the cities they made! They created these builds with cardboard, exploring how to create texture and problem solve difficult 3D issues using the process of designing a building. After, they revised their structures after a session of feedback from classmates. They had never used cardboard before, so this lesson was a big hit!

Presentation 2

Art in Architecture

Students began learning about architecture with a city planning lesson (see curriculum).  They learned of the cardboard architectural sculpture by Alfredo and Isabel Aquilizan as well as the process of design when pertaining to making a building (pre-design, schematic design, final design). After drawing schematic designs in their sketchbook, the students began to construct their cardboard architecture builds.

Finished Builds

Once the students finished their architecture, they had a day to go around and share 'glows' and 'grows' to everyone's builds. The students then reflected on those glows and grows to make their artwork better. Here are their finished works!
