Sixth-Seventh Grade

Mona Lisa Parodies

What makes the Mona Lisa famous? We investigated the arguably most famous work of art in this project. We discussed the possible reasons for her being famous, learning the history, and appluing it to artworks we know today. The students created their own versions of the Mona Lisa after generating a few different ideas of how we could approach the project.

Gridding Worksheet

Finished Mona Lisas

Students used tempera paint on a canvas paper. They began by working on a gridding worksheet to give them an option. They have the opportunity to size up the gridding for the canvas paper or to draw it on their own, depending on their levels. There was around half of the class who gridding and half who drew it freehanded! They all turned out really well, and there was a large variety in what was meaningful to them.
